 Good Value High Strreet Indian The Red Rose is has the unusual quality of being much better than it looks! Often quiet (or empty) and located at the edge of Egham's high street area it is easily overlooked. Despite this it turns out consistently good quality Indian food at very reasonable prices. No match for 'top end' Indians like Mango Lounge in Windsor or Shapla (or Even the Old School House) in Shepperton - but if you want a local that can actually still turn out dishes that look an taste different to one another - and is a better bet than many more popular Indians in the area look no further! locmed, www.tripadvisor.co.uk | |
| Understated Quality and Value My new Gourmet Society membership gave this as a restaurant offering Gourmet Society members a discount. I did some quick online research and saw one review, which talked of ‘understated good value’, so I decided to try it. When I got outside though it looked like a nondescript take-away place and I nearly did not go in. That would have been a mistake! Past the entrance that had put me off, the tables, chairs and flooring conveyed modern but gently understated quality. It was not crowded for a Saturday night (though it was not university term time). The menu was laminated and difficult to read in the light – my only criticism of the place – but I was immediately impressed by the prices. I should mention we had entirely vegetarian dishes. When the food came it was excellent. The waiter had just the right level of friendliness with the service and I regard this restaurant as a real find and I plan to go back again, both to eat in and for take-aways. | Very Decent Quality Sunday buffet and Wednesday fixed meal are value deals. Convenient to Royal Holloway this is a very decent quality competitively priced curry house. Not out there with the growing number of more imaginative and different specialist Indian restaurants but this place easily meets the budget and satisfies the hunger and needs of the student or averagely waged punter.
